No, it is not the next episode of Gossip Girl to which I am hinting with my title. (Though, I will admit, I am quite excited to see what unfolds between Jenny and Nate...). Then, what could it be? Hmm.....Oh, I know! Possibly one of the most important days in the United States...You know, the day that always falls on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November every 2 or 4 years...
Did you not follow my sub-par lingo that I unburied from the remnants of my high school Government class memories? If you didn't, let me be a bit more abrupt: DUH--its ELECTION DAY!! And it isn't only a House and/or Senate election day (not that electing members of the House and Senate is not important...) it is a PRESIDENTIAL election day! (If you didn't know this by now, it is time to read a magazine, a newspaper, CNN.com, or SOMETHING because you are out of the loop!!)
That's right--the big day that has been discussed and debated since, well, the last Presidential Election (or at least Inauguration Day) has finally arrived. With the economy in the toilet, and the troops still overseas, this is a big'un!! But before you can have an election, you need candidates...
For the Democrats: Who would be the candidate?
Would it be John Edwards? Would it be Hillary Clinton? No for John (oops--scandals put some taint on his name!!) And no for Hillary too--she pulled out (hoping to receive a spot on Obama's ticket as VP...sorry Hillary, better luck next time, dear). Who else was left? You guessed it! Senator Barrack Obama from Illinois was chosen as the Democratic Presidential Candidate. And, since Hillary was not the one chosen to complete the blue ticket, then who would be? Does "Joe Biden" ring a bell? Obama chose Delaware's Senator Joe Biden, who has been in the Senate since 1972!! Can you say experienced?
FOR THE BLUE TICKET:
OBAMA*BIDEN 2008
For the Republicans: Who would be the candidate?
Would it be Mitt Romney from Massachusetts? Or perhaps Mike Huckabee from Arkansas? No luck for either...but who then? You guessed it--McCain! Senator John McCain swept the Republican primaries accumulating over 47% of the votes!! Looks like Romney and Huckabee didn't quite stand a chance... Next, somewhat from left field as far as I am aware, McCain chose Alaska's Governor Sarah "Barracuda" Palin to be his running mate. [I do not know enough about Palin or her stint as governor to comment on that...(I also want to remain as unbiased as possible) but I do know that Tina Fey does a hilarious impression, and if you have not seen it, you should get on youtube.com immediately!]
AND FOR THE RED TICKET:
McCAIN*PALIN 2008
And though many have already voted absentee (including myself :) ) come Tuesday, it will truly be a showdown! I personally cannot WAIT to see the results! It is the first Presidential Election in which I could vote, which makes it even more exciting for me!
I cannot wait to see the results, and hear who will be our country's leader for the next four years! Though they will never know it, I wish both candidates luck, and may the best man win!
Feeling Patriotic,
Louise
